President's Message - Jean L. Revis

November, 2016 ALMANAC

President’s Message – Jean L. Revis

On October 7th eighty-eight women and men enjoyed a delightful luncheon cruise on the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. The luncheon was delicious, the weather was beautiful and the company was outstanding. Many compliments were received and many “sailors” said that they would like to go sailing again! A BIG thank you to Special State Project Chairman Susie Chambers for organizing a fabulous fundraiser to benefit Prevent Child Abuse-NJ. Special thanks to Katie and Peter Chambers who “volunteered” to help Susie organize the day.

Thanks to Sue Stenson and her committee for all their hard work to bring us an absolutely wonderful Fall Conference. I hope that all attendees were able to bring useful information back to their clubs. Thank you to the members who took advantage of Walgreens “Get a Shot, Give a Shot” program by getting their flu shots at the Walgreen’s table. If you were at the Conference you had a chance to hear Wilma Harris and Tina Gordon speak about their experiences at GCI and Douglass College helped shaped their lives. Both these remarkable ladies “Pay it forward” be mentoring today’s Douglass students. It just goes to show that you never know how far a good deed you do will go! The State CSP Chairmen who spoke each eloquently talked about a special area of their program. Pamela Stalcup and Patty Mojta from Prevent Child Abuse-NJ spoke about their program on Teen Pregnancy which among other things, helps teen mothers complete high school which raising their babies. We were entertained by keynote speaker Lisa Begin-Kruysman, author of Around the World in 1909: Harriet White Fisher and her Locomobile. Lisa transported us back in time relating stories of the funny and remarkable journey of the fiery and intrepid New Jersey anvil industrialist, Harriet White Fisher, who set her sights on experiencing the world in a motor car. Lastly congratulations to the clubs recognized for the highest net gain in membership in each district. Well Done!!!

Don’t forget to make your reservation for the Headquarters Open House and Holiday Sing-a- long on November 17, 2016. If you’ve never been to headquarters you really should come and see your beautiful Federation home and if you’ve visited before you should come and see the updates that have been completed over the past year. Call Executive Director Carol Sas at Headquarters by November 7 so we can know how many to expect. This is always a fun way to kick off the holiday season! Did you know that every club is entitled to hold a meeting at Headquarters once a year? Just contact Carol Sas to reserve your date.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the clubs that donated stockings to be sent to Boatsie’s Boxes for our service men and women serving overseas; to clubs that made monetary donations to cover the expenses of the project; to Public Issues Chairman Ora Kokol and her committee, Elaine Hossfield, Donna Eichmann and Jean Battaglia for collecting and boxing the stockings and especially to Joyce Fredericks and her son, Chuck, for once again driving the stockings to West Virginia for shipping.

It’s never too early to begin the search for your GCI delegate. The deadline for clubs to submit their delegates’ and alternates’ information to the GCI chairman has been changed and will be March 1, 2017.

Finally, When I count my blessings I always count the amazing members of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC twice as they go about doing good works while continuing to “Trust in the Day and Believe in the Future”. I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by loving family and friends.

In Federation Friendship,

Jean Revis, NJSFWC President
